Every city has its own unique vibe, and the same applies to street photography in each place. As a street photographer, my camera is the tool through which I connect with the city, capturing the life, energy, and stories around me. In this post, I’ll share my street photography journey in Antwerp, a city that’s constantly evolving and offering new perspectives.

Since my last update a year ago, a lot has changed in both my photography and my personal journey. One of the highlights of the past year is having some of my street photos featured in a book about Antwerp. It’s incredibly motivating to see my work in print, and it serves as a reminder of how far I’ve come. You can check out the book and purchase it if you’re interested.
Additionally, I attended a street photography workshop in Brussels, which, although not in Antwerp, significantly enhanced my skills and approach to photography in the city. The workshop allowed me to experiment with new techniques and perspectives, which I’ve brought back to my work in Antwerp.
Reflecting on the year, I feel that my photography has evolved, and I hope that shows through the photos I capture.
December 2023
After living in Brussels for three years, I’ve recently moved back to my hometown of Antwerp. My time in Brussels was valuable, but now that I’m back in Antwerp, it feels like a rediscovery of the city. A lot has changed in the years I was away—new buildings, redesigned streets, and of course, changes in myself as well.
With a fresh perspective, I’ve been exploring parts of Antwerp I never fully appreciated before. I find myself wandering into streets I had never visited, getting lost in places I thought I knew too well. It’s a journey of rediscovery, where familiar spots take on new meaning.
My camera has been a great motivation to go out and explore. I’ve challenged myself by using different lenses, which has led to new types of photos and experiences. Street photography, however, still remains daunting at times. Photographing people in public can be intimidating, but I also enjoy capturing other elements like textures, objects, and even birds. There’s so much beauty to be found in the little things.
A recent purchase, the Nikon Z7II, has made a big difference in how I approach street photography. It’s smaller, lighter, and quieter than my previous camera, the D850, and has helped me feel more comfortable taking photos in public spaces without drawing too much attention to myself.
Antwerp continues to evolve, and so does my street photography. Each walk through the city brings new challenges and rewards, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.
