As December rolled in, it was a welcome contrast to the busier November. This month was all about slowing down, spending quality time with loved ones, and preparing for the year ahead. It gave me the chance to reflect, recharge, and enjoy the simple things in life.
Work-wise, I stayed busy with events and portrait sessions in Ghent and Brussels, along with several smartphone photography workshops across Belgium. Even though my schedule was packed, the balance between work and personal time made it a fulfilling month.
Beyond work, I took time to appreciate the holiday season. I spent a day at the MSK in Ghent and went on photo walks, often ending up at the Christmas market, where I enjoyed a glass of Genever. Another highlight was a Sinterklaas brunch with the family, where we shared laughs and good food.
I also helped my sister and her fiancé move into their new house, a task that took a bit of time but was rewarding. It was the perfect opportunity to catch up with family and help out when needed. During the quieter moments, I began to plan for the coming year, including the idea of hiring a freelance copywriter to enhance my company blog.
For a bit of fun, I met up with friends at Vleeshalle in Mechelen. Afterward, we went to an escape room, where we surprisingly did well. To wrap up the month, I attended a comedy show by Xander de Rycke at the Lotte Arena, which was a great way to end the year with some laughter.
My street photography journey continued as I had thought-provoking conversations with Bart Azare and Giannis Angelakis, both of whom will feature in my podcast in January. I also caught up with Koen Geens over coffee to lend him my Godox V1 for the weekend. It was great to chat about photography and the new Godox strobe when we met again for the return.
Highlights and Firsts of December 2024
There were a few memorable firsts this month. I had the pleasure of meeting Giannis Angelakis and Bart Azare—two photographers I admire. These conversations opened new perspectives, and I look forward to sharing them with you through my podcast.
As always, I made sure to immerse myself in some great books, movies, and exhibitions. A few notable mentions include:
- The Observer
- Paris by Elliot Erwitt
- Found, Not Lost by Elliott Erwitt
- A Question of Color by Joel Meyerowitz
- The Hobbit
I also visited some wonderful places during the month. I spent time at the MSK in Ghent, explored Vleeshalle in Mechelen, and had a coffee break at Oats Day Long in Antwerp. For some great food, I stopped by Bahn Mi in Antwerp and enjoyed the Brussels Wintermarket.
Looking Ahead
December gave me the perfect opportunity to reflect on the year gone by and set my sights on the future. From spending time with family to meeting inspiring people in the street photography world, it was a fulfilling end to 2024. As I plan for 2025, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to sharing more moments with you.
